Whether or not you have ever sailed before, if you join a voyage in Prolific you will be treated as a valuable member of the crew right from the start, and you'll be actively involved in every aspect of sailing the boat. This means hoisting and lowering sails, steering, getting involved with navigation, cooking, and keeping watch (including night sailing on longer passages). Qualified watch leaders are always around to show you what to do and to answer any questions. Along with other crew members, you'll also be involved in discussions about what we do and where we go. Prolific's sea staff will always try to explain things, and make sure everyone understands what they are being asked to do and why. At sea, when you're not on duty, there's time to relax, chat, listen to music, read, or play games - as well as time to sleep! In harbour, there will be trips ashore, and there might be organised games, a BBQ, football on the beach, visits to a local attraction, or a party!

Voyages on board Prolific can last from two days to two weeks, but in general will include four or five nights on board. This allows time for you to develop familiarity and confidence in sailing the boat; make friends; work as a team; learn new skills; earn recognised qualifications (RYA Start Yachting, RYA Competent Crew); face new challenges; have a lot of fun; and go home with a real sense of achievement. From sailing around the south coast of England to adventurous Tall Ships racing, there is a voyage for everyone. We are also an Approved Activity provider for the DoFE Gold Award Residential Project. Many young people who sail as crew come back to train as volunteer sea staff after their voyage.
